Riders not to have attained their 9th birthday on 1st January in the current year. To be led by an attendant aged 14 years and over. To be
shown in snaffle bridle, lead rein to be attached to the noseband not to the bit. The Highest Placed CHAPS (UK) Member/Registered Horse/Pony
may qualify from this class, qualifier card to be presented to the judge in the ring for signing.
6. First Ridden Pony - Open to ponies not exceeding 128cms, mares or geldings, four years old and over.
Riders not to have attained their 12th birthday on the first January in the current year. To be shown in any suitable snaffle bridle. The Highest
Placed CHAPS (UK) Member/Registered Horse/Pony may qualify from this class, qualifier card to be presented to the judge in the ring for signing.
7. Best Ridden Pony - Open to ponies exceeding 128cms but not exceeding 148cms, mares or geldings, four years old and over.
Riders any age but to be a suitable size and weight for the pony - NO MOUNTAIN AND MOORLAND PONIES ALLOWED IN THIS CLASS.
8. Ridden Mountain & Moorland Small and Large breeds - Riders to be a suitable size and weight for the pony. LEAD REIN PONIES NOT
PERMITTED.
9. Ridden Veteran Horse/Pony – Open to horses and ponies, mare or gelding 15 years and over.
10. Concours d’elegance – to be ridden astride or side saddle. Open to horses and ponies, mares and geldings, four years and over. Riders any
age. Costumes or traditional allowed. To be judged on the overall picture of elegance presented by horse/pony and rider including appearance,
conformation and individual show.
In each of the above classes the highest placed two exhibits not already qualified within the first five places and with a valid 2008 Qualification
card will qualify for the Championships. You may only qualify once in each class. If you have already qualified, the qualification passes to the
next highest placed within the first five places. You cannot enter two horses in the same class.
There must be 5 or more competitors in any class before qualification is passed down to second place i.e. less than five competitors 1 qualifies,
five or more competitors, 2 qualify.
Please Note: If you enter the Ridden Hunter Class OR the Ridden Cob Class you may NOT enter the Ridden Horse Class at the same show.

registered with the VHS to qualify.

Please note:
a) Protective boots, bandages and body protectors may be worn for the jumping section BUT must be removed for the showing section.
b) No other change of tack is permitted
c) NO CHANGE OF RIDER IS ALLOWED
d) A fall of horse or rider will result in elimination
e) Classes will be judged 60% jumping, 40% conformation and manners
16. Open Working Hunter Pony not to exceed 143cms
Riders not to have attained their 17th birthday before 1st January in the current year.
17. Open Working Hunter Pony - exceeding 143cms but not exceeding 153cms
Riders any age but to be a suitable size and weight for the pony.
18. Open Working Hunter Horse - Horses to exceed 153cms
Riders to have attained their 16th birthday by 1st January in the current year.

The Veteran Horse Society Showing Championships are open both to Members and Non-Members of the Veteran horse society. Please note that
ONLY veteran Horse Society Members are eligible to compete in the Regional Championship. Qualification cards will ONLY be given to the first 2
members with their VHS membership/horse registration cards as proof of membership to the Society.
The Regional winners will go on to compete at the Veteran Horse Society Showing Championship Supreme Final at Olympia in December - date
to be finalised.
Membership to the Society must be received no later than 14 days prior to the Area Qualifier Show (4th May 2008). LATE MEMBERSHIP WILL

There are 3 levels of Dressage classes:
29. Preliminary - Test Prelim - 7
30. Preliminary Scales of Training - Test Prelim 1
31. Novice - Test 25
Please note: there will be no differentiation between Prelim and Prelim 1 Scales of Training at Qualifier for the 2008 Challenge. However, as with
the 2007 Challenge at Regional and National Final level a Prelim Scales of Training class will be available alongside the standard Prelim and Novice
classes. Competitors qualified at Prelim level will be eligible to enter Regional Finals in both Prelim Scales of Training and we will hold National
Final Classes in both.
Show jumping (main ring) - starts 12.00 noon
There are 4 heights of Show jumping competitions:
32. Restricted Novice - fences up to 0.65m
33. Novice - fences up to 0.75m
34. Intermediate - fences up to 0.85m
35. Open - fences up to 0.95m
Combinations of horse and rider qualifying for Intermediate or Open show jumping classes of the UK Riders Challenge are not eligible to go
forward to Regional Finals in the Restricted/Novice Class.

for the height of exhibit (except stallions under 153cms which must be ridden by 14 years old or over riders, 12 years for stallions under
138cms). All exhibits must be shown in snaffle bridle only.
38. Novice Ridden Horse - exc. 148cms
This class is also a CHAPS qualifier for the Ponies (UK) Summer Championship - 'Back to Black' Novice Ridden Horse Final - the Highest Placed
CHAPS (UK) Member/Registered Horse/Pony to qualify, qualifier card to be presented to judge in the ring for signing. Open to novice ridden
horses. Riders any age but suitable for the height of exhibit (except stallions under 153cms which must be ridden by 14 years old or over riders).
All exhibits must be shown in snaffle bridle only.
Please Note: If you are entering classes 37 & 38 for your CHAPS (UK) qualifier the heights for the horses/ponies are as follows:

Coloured Horse & Pony Society (UK) ('CHAPS (UK)')
This show is affiliated to CHAPS (UK). The CHAPS (UK) Championship Show will be held on 29th, 30th & 31st August 2008 at Arena (UK).
Members to apply in writing to CHAPS (UK) for appropriate qualifier card. The following classes are CHAPS (UK) qualifiers 5, 6, 10, 12, 13, 14,
15, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43 and 48. For full rulings and information on competition/qualification, please refer to the
CHAPS (UK) Members' Handbook or visit www.chapsuk.com. All Stallions entering these classes must be graded with CHAPS (UK). ID cards must
be carried in the ring for inspection. Foals born within the current year are not eligible to compete in qualifying classes.

43. CHAPS UK Native Cob/Traditional Open Ridden Qualifier - any height - to be shown in natural state or hogged and trimmed
